Cats are prone to several health disorders that are also common in humans. Nose bleeds in cats is one of the ailments that you may have to face in the general course of your pet's life. Like any other health disorders, information is the primary step to cure it, or at least provide a comfortable state for your cat. Feline nose bleeding is also known as epistaxis. This condition can be caused by damage in the nasal passage or the presence of foreign particles in its nose. Trauma, nasal tumors and dental diseases are some other reasons of nasal bleeding in cats.

The main symptoms that should alert you about your kitty contracting this ailment are bleeding from the nose accompanied by sneezing. Your cat may also have a swollen nose accompanied by foul smell. That is why it is important that you check the oral and nasal regions of your kitty during the grooming sessions. Quite often, the cat may also have tarry and black colored feces.

As soon as any of these signs occur, you should try to do some damage control. Administering first aid would definitely help the cat to get some relief. The very first thing that you should do is to help your kitty relax as any stress or excitement will only increase the bleeding. You can use cold compression on the nose, as this would help the blood to clot, or at least slow down the flow.

Once you have done your bit, take your cat to the vet as soon as possible, so that he or she can run some important tests immediately. Generally blood tests, X-Rays, and analysis of urine are performed to determine the exact cause of nasal bleeding. It is the diagnosis that will decide the nature of the treatment. If the bleeding is caused by a foreign body or a tumor, then the vet may have to surgically remove it.

Nose bleeding can indicate something more serious, but try not to panic as your increasing stress would only aggravate your cat's condition. The best thing you could do would be to stay cool and to handle the situation with patience. Keeping your house clutter free would help prevent the cat from bumping into any sharp or hard object and getting hurt.

Finally, be alert and do not hesitate to reach out to your vet if you suspect your cat is suffering from nose bleeds.
